Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships

The Mirror Images had a fantastic journey to Hershey, PA for the Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships. The Pre-Juvenile team competed first and finished in 6th place. While the team did not advance to the final round, the team members and coaches were pleased with how they performed. The team is excited to add more difficulty to their program before their next competition in March.

The Open-Juvenile team had two beautiful performances. They started the competition off by winning first place in their qualifying round. They advanced to the final round and finished in?th to bring home USFS Pewter medals. Team members were enthusiastic about how they performed and with their placement. They are very excited for the rest of the competition season.

Port City Invitational Brings Success for MI Teams

All of the MI teams participated in the 17th Annual Port City Invitational held January 20th, 2012 in Oswego, NY. The Beginner 2 and Open-Juvenile teams brought home the gold medal and team trophies for their division. The Pre-Juvenile team had a strong skate and finished 2nd in their level bringing home the silver medal. Congratulations to the ladies on all teams for their successful night!

Mirror Images Success!

The Mirror Images Synchronized Skating teams 2011-2012 season has been extremely successful. Most recently all three of the Mirror Images teams medaled at the Port City Invitational held January 20, 2012 in Oswego, NY bringing home two first place finishes and one second place finish.

Synchronized skating is one of the most popular disciplines in figure skating. Skaters link up and perform elements to music while creating multiple shapes such as blocks, wheels, and circles. The sport allows skaters of all different ages, levels and abilities to participate in local and travel competitions as well as exhibitions year round. The Mirror Images train Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday at the Thomas Creek Ice Arena in Fairport, NY.

The Open-Juvenile team is the most competitive of all the Mirror Images teams. They participate in 7-8 local and out-of-state competitions through the season. The team started off this season by placing second at the Skaneateles Invitational held December 2nd, 2011; they followed it with first place at the 17th Annual Cape Cod Classic in Bourne, MA held December 9th, 2011; second place at the 28th Annual Colonial Classic & Junior World Qualifier held January 6-8th, 2012 in Lowell, MA and most recently, first place at the Port City Invitational. The team is made up of 12 members – Melanie, Larissa, Kristen, Tiffany, Adya, Jamie, Emily, Sarah, Shayna, Marnee, Catherine, and Jessica whom attend local public and private schools. The team practices twice a week and holds off-ice practices once a month.  Jessica Stratton has been coaching and choreographing the team for the past four years.

The Pre-Juvenile team has also been very busy this season. They placed third at the Skaneateles Invitational, seventh at the 28th Annual Colonial Classic & Junior World Qualifier, and second at the Port City Invitational. Team members Aletheia, Hillary, Samantha, Sydney, Natalie, Taylor, Helena, Madison, Skylar, and Amelia practice two hours each week. The team is coached by Beth Ellen Rothberg and Jessica Stratton.

Both the Open-Juvenile and Pre-Juvenile teams will be competing January 26th-28th, 2012 at the Eastern Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships in Hershey, PA which is the largest competition they attend in the season. There are 29 Pre-Juvenile teams and 26 Open-Juvenile teams competing at the event. Teams must place in the top four in the qualifying round to be able to advance to the final rounds of competition.

Mirror Images’ youngest team, Beginner 2, won their first event, the Skaneateles Invitational, where they received a team trophy and individual gold medals for their performance to “My Girl,” by The Temptations. At their second event, the Port City Invitational, the team bested four other New York teams to win the Beginner 2 trophy. The team practices for an hour each week under the coaching and direction of Jessica Stratton. Team members include: Jessica, Joanna, Lauren, Angela, Hilary, Olivia, Tessa, Meredithand Levia.

Success in Lowell, MA at the 28th Annual Colonial Classic

The Open-Juvenile team brought home the silver medal after competing at the 28th Annual Colonial Classic held January 6-7, 2012 in Lowell, MA. The Pre-Juvenile team came in 7th at their first travel event of the season. This event was part of the Eastern Challenge Series. Way to go teams!

Mirror Images Wins in Cape Cod

The Open-Juvenile team traveled to Bourne, MA and competed in the 17th Annual Cape Cod Classic held December 9-11, 2011. The team brought home gold medals and the glass basket for their flight. This is the first event for the OJ team in the Eastern Challenge Series.

MI Teams Medal at the Skaneateles Invitational

All of the MI teams earned medals at the Skaneateles Invitational held December 2nd, 2011. The Beginner 2 team won first place, Pre-Juvenile placed 3rd, and Open-Juvenile placed 2nd. Congrats to all skaters and coaches on their successful start to the competition season!

Team Building Fun Kicks off the Synch Season

Camp Out

Skaters from all 3 teams spent the night camping under stars, playing with water balloons and shaving cream, making s'mores, creating dances and fashion designs. The coaches stopped by to share in the festivities too. This was the second camp out hosted by the Packer family and everyone loved it.

Maize Maze

Despite cold and rainy weather, several members of the Open-Juv and Pre-Juv teams spent time in the maze at Long Acre Farms. Skaters enjoyed pizza, cider and donuts after the maze.

Josh Babb Clinic a Success!

On June 5th Mirror Images hosted a very successful clinic with Josh Babb, director and head coach of the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Teams.  Many skaters attended and worked on their edges, footwork, music interpretation, and general synchronized skating skills.  The clinic attracted members from several neighboring teams.  MI looks forward to hosting clinics like this in the future and offering local skaters the opportunity to work with high end coaches as a progressive organization.

Gold Rush for MI at the Genesee Invitational

All of the MI teams - Beginner 1, Pre-Juvenile and Open-Juvenile - brought home gold medals for their first place finishes at the Genesee Invitational held in Rochester, NY.  What a fantastic way to end the season!

Open-Juv Wins Gold in Providence

Congratulations to the Open-Juv Team for their success at the Lee Ann Miele Synchronized Skating Open held in Providence, RI! When you combine this first place finish with the first place finish in Hershey, PA and the fourth place finish in Lowell, MA the team earned 11 points in the Eastern Challenge Series which put them in 5th place overall!
